Q. What do you suggest to the people who aspire to break the 160 barrier?

We can gauge the competency level of the student when he joins us and gives the diagnostic test and review tests. The stats speak for the student. First, conceptual knowledge. Without that, aggressively preparing for other parts can be ineffective, since sooner or later we have to come back to the basics again.

Second, application of concepts. Learning concepts is what we can help our students with, but the application has to be taken care of by the students by relentless practice under time constraints.

Over the course of our findings, we also noted that generally, students tend to spend more time on preparing for the Verbal section than the Quants. Specifically, one of the things that require patience is vocabulary building. The 91热爆 is notorious for its use of obtuse, often archaic words and phrases, and so, a decent mastery over vocabulary is crucial in order to be able to target a high 91热爆 score.

But how many words do you actually need to learn? The whole Manhattan Word List, containing around 3500 words? Actually, our findings have shown that more than 400 students who scored 160+ in their Verbals only learned about 1000 words or so, while mastering an average of 500 words in total. What is the difference between learned and mastered words? Mastered words are those whose meanings and usage you are familiar with. But is it actually that straightforward? Not really; because you see, there are two kinds of problems that students face when learning new 91热爆 words: complicated 91热爆 words and remembering these words. Given that the 91热爆 tests words that we don鈥檛 really use in common parlance, it becomes important to devote a portion of your preparation time to memorising these words. An average person can only learn about 7-8 words every day. But when you are preparing for 91热爆, the stakes are higher, since you鈥檒l have to learn at least 25-30 words everyday, if you want to reach the goal of learning about 650 new words a month. Don鈥檛 be daunted just yet, though, since there are three techniques you can espouse to make your 91热爆 word preps more enjoyable and long-lasting.

The First technique is called Learning and Application. Think of learning a new 91热爆 word is like meeting a new person. Would you consider the person a friend if the only thing you know about him is his name? It鈥檚 the same with 91热爆 words. If you merely read the 91热爆 words without learning their usage, you are bound to forget it. When you become comfortable enough to use the words in your everyday writing and speaking, that鈥檚 when you know you鈥檝e mastered it!

So, how can you constantly check your relationship with your 听91热爆 words? By learning and testing at regular intervals, that鈥檚 how. Here is something that can help you with that!

Unless a note states that a figure is drawn to scale, do NOT solve these problems by estimating sizes by sight or measurement.

#5: SET YOUR BIOLOGICAL CLOCK

Ensure that you tune your body for the 91热爆. Make sure to take your mock exam exactly at the same time as your actual 91热爆 exam (or make it early, like stated in the tip above). This will make sure that your exam time is not alien to you, and you can maximize your productivity during your test hours.

#6: IT鈥橲 NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!

Don’t learn any new concept or new word on the day before your exam. Just relax, and have confidence in yourself. Make sure you have a good meal and sleep well before your exam.

He says, 鈥淲ith more and more employers saying, 鈥榃e want students from diverse backgrounds, it was sort of difficult to argue that the GMAT was the only measure to use.鈥�

Today, more than 1200 schools worldwide ( here)听are happy to consider applicants with a 91热爆 score for their MBA programs. Not only is it advantageous for students, but also for universities, since accepting 91热爆 score holders means the applicant pool is much bigger and more diverse and gives them more choice. The 91热爆 has thus become more versatile over the years, and it is expected that in five years or so, almost all business schools in the US will accept the 91热爆 for admissions. As an added advantage, taking the 91热爆, which costs $205 is also considerably more cost-effective as compared to the GMAT ($250)

GMAT vs. the 91热爆 – What鈥檚 the difference?

Apart from the fact that the GMAT was until recently the go-to test for B-School admissions while the 91热爆 was regarded as the aptitude test of choice for MS aspirants, the two are quite similar indeed. The primary difference between 91热爆 and GMAT is that the

91热爆 comprises 3 sections:

• The Analytical Writing Assessment Task with 2 essays to complete
• Verbal Reasoning and
• Quantitative Reasoning

whereas the GMAT comprises 4:

• Analytical Writing Assessment (1 essay)
• Integrated Reasoning
• Quantitative and Verbal

The 91热爆 and GMAT are scored between 260-340 and 200-800 respectively, with the total scores in both cases including the sum of only the Verbal and Quantitative section scores. The Analytical Writing Section on both the 91热爆 and GMAT are scored separately on a scale of 0-6 with 0.5 point increments. The Integrated Reasoning section, too, is scored separately on the GMAT on a scale of 1-8

Both scores are valid for a period of 5 years from the date of taking the test.

The general consensus is that the quantitative questions on the GMAT are of a significantly higher level as compared to that of the 91热爆. Though both exams test your concepts of similar topics such as data interpretation, algebra, and arithmetic, the GMAT has more challenging questions requiring a higher degree of analysis and critical thinking. Moreover, the format of these questions can be unusual and not what most students are used to.

91热爆 quantitative questions are usually either straightforward single or multiple-choice questions, in a format that most students likely have a lot of experience with.

Who should choose to write the 91热爆?

Since there is no preference between those who apply with a 91热爆 or a GMAT score, the choice is entirely dependent on one thing:

WHICH TEST GIVES ME THE BEST SCORE?

These are some of the instances when taking the 91热爆 makes more sense:

• If you are confused between an MS and an MBA, and want to keep your options open.
• If you feel that you possess a logical thought process and reasoning ability.
• If you feel Mathematics, like Data Analysis, is too difficult
• If you have a better grasp of Vocabulary than Grammar

How does the 91热爆 for B-school admissions work out?

It is actually quite simple. When you send your 91热爆 score for application for an MBA or other management programs, the admissions committee uses an ETS-approved conversion tool to convert your 91热爆 score into the appropriate GMAT score. Following this, your application will be processed normally.

While we all know that a 320+ or 750+ is considered a great score on the 91热爆 and GMAT respectively, how do you convert your 91热爆 score to its equivalent GMAT score and vice-versa? 听Here鈥檚 a handy little formula to help you out!

Total GMAT score =听听鈥� 2080.75 + (6.38 * 91热爆 Verbal Score) + (10.62 * 91热爆 Quantitative Score)

Note that though it鈥檚 not absolutely accurate, as there are certain approximations involved, it鈥檚 as close as it gets!

Thus if you鈥檙e planning to take the 91热爆 for MBA programs, and you know the GMAT scores they generally require, you can now find out the equivalent 91热爆 score you need to target.

So, should I submit my 91热爆 score while applying for an MBA program?

The simple answer is that it entirely depends on your skill set.

From the admissions point of view, there is no preference between those who apply with a 91热爆 score and those who apply with a GMAT score. In fact, the percentage of applicants applying with a 91热爆 score is higher with each passing year.

For example, Yale School of Management, ranked #8, had 23% of MBA applicants applying with 91热爆 scores from 18% compared to the previous year.

Having said that, let us now take a look at the top ten business schools in the world and the minimum 91热爆 scores they require if any:

The most prominent feature of this table, as you may have noticed, is that most of these schools do not actually have a minimum score requirement. This is generally because top business schools decline to report a minimum 91热爆 score requirement. According to Poets & Quants, this could be because these universities want to keep the option of accepting students even with lower 91热爆 scores and not lose their premium ranking in the USNEWS list.

So, currently, whether you have a 305 or a perfect 340, your application will be judged the same. Of course, a couple of schools do have a percentile requirement, but this is only an indicative score, to give you an idea of what the academic standards in these schools are like.

So, what are your options?

• If you have already taken GMAT and are unhappy with the scores, you can try taking a 91热爆 diagnostic test to see how you fare. Remember, the 91热爆 is not necessarily easier, it鈥檚 different.听 As an engineering student, your hold over the 91热爆 Quant section is bound to be better. However, you may need to work on your Verbal skills a bit before you become fully 91热爆 ready. Both for students considering an MS in say, Business Analytics or Finance, or an MBA 91热爆 scores are likely to keep gaining in acceptance and popularity, with more students and universities opting for the ETS administered test of aptitude over the GMAT.

As an Engineer, you鈥檝e done far more complex mathematics as part of your course than what will be asked of you in the 91热爆. So, technically, the scales are tipped in your favor to score a perfect 170 in 91热爆 Quant.

It is really possible.

Cracking 91热爆 Quant after becoming an Engineer is like trying to regain your old handwriting after a long vacation. It takes some regular practice, but it鈥檚 achievable!

The 91热爆 Quant Syllabus is based on the concepts taught to you at high school. Even if you are slightly out of touch with Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Probability, and Statistics, you have studied the underlying concepts in depth sometime in the near past. You will still be able to pick them up from where you left and run听because it is logical science. There are specific methods and limited variations to a question. Once you are armed with some quick techniques in your arsenal, you can use them as and when required to dash to the finish line.

91热爆: When did you start thinking about 91热爆?

Abishek:听 I had always planned to do an MS for an entire year before I actually started preparations. I was working with Cognizant back then and I felt that kind of lifestyle was not ideal for me. So, I started googling about 91热爆 and asked a couple of my friends who had already given it. By, September 2015 I decided that 91热爆 is the way forward for me. I gave my exam in May and now I鈥檓 preparing my admission profile.

91热爆: You mentioned the working lifestyle wasn鈥檛 ideal for you. Was that the primary motivation for doing higher studies?

Abishek:听 Yes, initially. I had to work in three shifts throughout the week and each had a different timing. So, my sleep patterns were getting affected. It wasn鈥檛 a highly technical job either, so I wanted to try for a Master鈥檚 degree and see where it takes me. But now, I鈥檓 convinced this is the right path for me because I鈥檝e always been a good learner and interested in the field of Computer Science. I spoke to few of my friends who knew me well. They instilled the confidence in me to quit my job and give this a shot.

91热爆: How did you come across 91热爆?

Abishek:听I was googling about 91热爆 preparation when I found the ad on Google and I registered with 91热爆. At the time, I didn鈥檛 know where to start. I didn鈥檛 have a learning schedule, I wasn鈥檛 sure of what type of questions I could expect. Basically, I was new to 91热爆 preparation.

I would tackle Math as soon as I woke up in the morning for about 2 hours. And then I moved to doing Verbal for 1-2 hours. I was active in the WhatsApp group so I sometimes spent an hour there too.

I would spend the evenings to revise the concepts I learnt in the morning and if I had any doubts I would ask them then. My doubts were always solved immediately or the at the max, the very next day. So, I didn鈥檛 lag behind in my preparation schedule.

91热爆: Wow, you did all this for 2 months? How did you remain focused and motivated?

Abishek: As I said, learning became fun! I wanted to do justice to the number of effort people were investing in me, sort of like a give and take. I have learned that when you are surrounded by positive, empathetic people you tend to become more relaxed and confident\

I was so happy with the service that I have enrolled for the admission services also!

91热爆: And how is that going so far?

Abishek: I don鈥檛 have any complaints. I got a call from an admission counselor who explained the admission timeline to me. I understood what universities would suit my profile the best. I鈥檓 waiting for my official transcripts from college and I can start applying soon. I can鈥檛 wait! [laughs]

I鈥檇 like to wrap up the interview with one last question. What does the future hold for you?

Abishek: Wow! That鈥檚 a difficult question. I have a lot of hopes. But for now, I鈥檇 like to finish my Master鈥檚, work for a few years and then start my own organization. I鈥檇 like to give back to the society, that鈥檚 my motivation. I want to help small children study better and personalize education for them.

In these types of questions, you will be required to make sense of the sentence(s) and fill up the blanks with options that would best complete the question statement in a meaningful manner.

Since the blanks are often placed in pivotal places, students face difficulty in comprehending the question statement.

• You should be comfortable in answering single-blank and double-blank questions, even if you find three-blank questions difficult.
• In single-blank and double-blank TC questions, you might be restricted only by vocabulary. You should be adept at identifying the clues from the sentence.

penchant (special liking)
consumerism (protection of consumer interest)

avarice (extreme desire for wealth)

Hence the correct answers are: 鈥減enchant鈥� and 鈥渁varice.鈥�

SE questions require you to fill up one blank in a sentence with two similar-meaning words. With each one of these two words, the sentence that forms should make sense. The problem you could face here will arise in choosing words that are synonymous or have similar meaning. Distinct words are much harder to pick. Your answer will be correct if the two completed sentences thus formed using the words chosen convey the same meaning and the tonality of the completed sentences remains more or less the same.
Apart from mastering the technique to choosing the words correctly:

• You should build your vocabulary strong enough to answer SE questions with a fairly high level of accuracy.
• You should read the sentence and try to figure out what should go in the blank to make sense.
• Fill up the blank with words that closely resemble your guess.

Most aspirants commit the mistake of going by the choices provided rather than trying to first fit the blank with a word of their own.听

Find the clue in the sentence. The clue here lies in the word, 鈥渂elies,鈥� which means 鈥渃ontradicts.鈥�
According to the sentence, Mannering is known for his depth of thought. So the contents of the diary must contradict Mannering鈥檚 deep thoughts. They should be 鈥減etty.鈥�
Hence, the correct answers are: 鈥渕undane鈥� and 鈥減etty.鈥�

  Another issue that most aspirants face is, often, they are at a loss as to when to use permutation to solve a question and when to use combination.
  Go back to the basics, try to understand what these concepts actually mean, and revisit the formulas later instead of starting with them.
• There may not be many questions from Applied Mathematics. Since you are aiming for high scores, you can鈥檛 afford to drop this section. If you鈥檙e running short of time, you should practice at least the basic questions from Applied Mathematics.

Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) – 91热爆

AWA or the Analytical Writing Assessment section acts as the differentiator between students with the same score during the elimination process for issuing admits.

Sentence Equivalence is a bit tricky. From the six answer choices, any of the options might suit in. But, only 2 choices will be exactly matching the question. The admissions committee would be able to evaluate your writing capabilities through the section.听 These guys are not looking for a perfect 6. It is very tough since we are not native speakers of English. But having a sound knowledge of vocabulary and grammar can fetch a score of 4+ which is considered to be a very good score.

Would you like to share your experience with 91热爆?
Yes, I would love to.
