Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam dreamed of a future where meritorious students can realize their dreams regardless of economic constraints. He might no longer be with us but his dream has indeed come true. University of Southern Florida (USF) located in Tampa, Florida has recently announced the first recipient of it鈥檚 prestigious President A.P. J. Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship.

This fellowship named in honor of our late president Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was established in December 2015 as an effort to encourage students from Indian universities to pursue higher studies in the STEM field thus overcoming financial constraints. The recipient will be awarded $18,000 tuition per year from the commencement of 聽fall 2016 semester. The office of the head of the department will be paying for the 9 month stipend during the first year. While the college will contribute in the form of a teaching or research assistantship for the next 3 years.

Dr. Roger Brindley, USF System Vice President explains that choosing one out of 70+ applicants who embodied all the qualities Dr Kalam stood for, took a lot of consideration and consultation.
